European Parliament happy Russia scrapped South Stream
BRUSSELS, Jan 15 (PRIME) -- The European Parliament has welcomed the abandonment of the South Stream pipeline project by Russia because the union prioritizes gas projects that diversify its gas supplies, the authority said in a resolution seen by PRIME on Thursday.
Russia abandoned the South Stream project which foresees gas transit from Russia under the Black Sea and Bulgaria to the Balkan Peninsula, Hungary, Austria and Italy. Russia abandoned it on a range of grounds, including inadequate policy of the European Union, and decided to construct the Turkish Stream, a new pipeline that will run to the Turkey-Greece border under the Black Sea, instead.
